Your Pre-Flight Checklist

At Tweed Coast Caravans in Murwillumbah, we want to hear about the great time you had on the road – not a tale of disaster, so we’ve created a pre-travel caravan checklist.

  • Disconnect the electrical lead, the water supply hose and the sullage hose – roll up and store.
  • Check that the step from outside the door is either retracted or stored in the front boot.
  • Make sure the awning, external step and rear and front corner stablisers are completely retracted and locked.
  • Ensure gas cylinders are secured and turn cylinders off at the bottle.
  • Switch off all interior lights and turn off the water pump.
  • Lock all doors and cupboards
  • Ensure any loose items inside the van are property secured
  • If the tow vehicle has 12-volt hot wire, set the fridge to 12-volt to keep it running while you’re on the move.

Top Tips For Travelling With A Caravan

Did you know that overloading your van can void your warranty and insurance and can cause damage to your caravan?

It is important to ensure the towbar and rear bumper bar are not used for fitting heavy items such as generators, trail bikes or toolboxes as this area of your van has not been designed to withstand additional loads not approved by the manufacturer.

Water is one of the biggest challenges for caravanners. During heavy rain or when you leave your RV unattended, you should always lower your awning or annex to avoid water ponding on the awning top. If it is windy or raining, it’s a good idea to keep the awning in the closed position.
